On Saturday, September 10th more than 650 runners and walkers of all ages took part in the 2011 BRIGHT Run at Dundas Valley Conservation Area. Though an official tally on funds raised is still being calculated, organizers announced day-of that the Run had brought in $258,805, elevating the event’s four-year fundraising total beyond $1.3M.

Each year, proceeds from the event are used to fund research studies and trials at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, many of which have led to advances in the treatment of breast cancer locally, nationally and around the world.

For the second consecutive year, $125,000 of the proceeds from this year’s Run will be used to support the purchase of a state-of-the-art three-dimensional ultrasound machine for the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre. This gift, made on behalf of the BRIGHT Run Committee, completes a pledge made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre Foundation in 2010. In addition to having significant applications for the research happening at the Cancer Centre, this advanced technology will aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of breast cancer among our patients.
