Come on out to this year’s BRIGHT Run beach-themed launch party and enjoy an upbeat evening of inspiring people who remind us why we walk every year in the fight against breast cancer right here in our own community.

We will have many tips for participants and team captains alike to help you get ready for Sept. 7 at the Dundas Valley Conservation Area.

Please RSVP by June 10 to Kathi Aitken at [email protected]

BRIGHT Run executive committee members and seasoned volunteers will share their experiences and tips to help make your team-building and fundraising an outstanding success.

The launch party will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the lovely Leander Boat Club at 59 Leander Drive on Hamilton’s waterfront. The bar will be open and finger foods will be available.

Many thanks to launch party sponsor Julie DeNardi, owner of Greta’s Flair on Ottawa Street North.

Julie, who has owned the specialty lingerie store for 15 years, has been a contributor to the BRIGHT Run for years and is happy to be the Launch Party sponsor.

In large part that’s because a substantial portion of her business deals with post breast surgery needs, from post-surgery camisoles with pouches to hold drains, to bras, swimwear, a range of breast forms for both full and partial mastectomy needs, as well as an adaptable breast form to wear through the stages of reconstruction.

Julie also writes applications for grant money and helps customers with insurance paperwork.

A qualified mastectomy fitter, Julie says she tries to reduce the stress for patients as much as possible and tries to find humour while helping women find balance by getting the proper fit.

“There is a lot of laughing in my work,” she says. “People seem to be able to talk to me. It’s what I enjoy doing.”

Along with the valuable information you will gather at the launch party, you can also pick up your very special 2019 team captain’s bracelet, designed by the talented Monica Graves of glamjulz.

A big thank you to Dr. Joseph Fortino, of Fortino Dental in Ancaster, who stepped up to sponsor the team captain’s bracelets this year.

Olympic hockey medalist Laura Fortino, the BRIGHT Run’s long-time honorary team captain, introduced her brother Joseph to event chair Nancy McMillan last year. He participated in the launch party last year and donated to the event day silent auction.

Joseph says he was honoured to be approached this year to sponsor the bracelets as a way of helping the BRIGHT Run support local, hometown breast cancer research.

The launch party promises to be a great celebration of what we’ve accomplished so far and what we can still do to fight breast cancer by supporting local research.

Remember to email Kathi Aitken at [email protected] by June 10 to let her know you’re coming. Looking forward to seeing you!
