Hello BRIGHT Run Family,
Happy December!
It seems hard to believe that the year 2023 is coming to an end soon. Time flew this year. If I were to pick the most frequent events from this year in terms of my role, it would be writing and reading, critical writing to be precise.
It would be better to say typing. It seems my writing is very good because I type but my real handwriting is getting worse due to the lack of practice. It reminds me of the handwriting practice that I used to do during my school days. We had handwriting tests and were graded based on consistency and the legibility of our writing.
This year, I wrote computer codes, papers, grant proposals, ethics protocols, presentations (in English), some memoirs for my mother, and a few poems (in Bengali). And then I read a lot of research papers (in English) and some fiction and non-fiction in English, Bengali, and Sanskrit.
In the world of data, the ‘most frequently’ happening event/element of all events/elements (related to the context) is called ‘mode’. Mode can be visualized as the peak of a mountain. In a mountain range, you can have multiple peaks; likewise, you can have multiple modes.
For me, reading and writing were the modes in my list of activities this year. Other activities included: walking and traveling, talking, planning, discussing, brainstorming, collaborating, and thinking, though this is not an exhaustive list though. Since 2021, BRIGHT Run has taken a unique role in my activities. My family and some friends have also become a part of the BRIGHT Run and eagerly wait for the event every year.
Of course, it goes without saying that these activities make me happy. However, I got happier as these resulted in the acceptance of some research papers that I was working on. Those papers are in press now. In the coming year, those papers will be published and I will take the opportunity to explain those papers to you through my letters in the BRIGHT Run eNewsletter.
Coming back to mode, I wish happiness to be the mode of all feelings we experience in the new year!
With Season’s Greetings!
Best,
Ashirbani
