Did you know that BRIGHT Run’s new home has a beach? OK, it might be a bit chilly by Sept. 9, but still…a beach!
Christie Lake Conservation Area has a 260-metre sandy beach and the swimming area can accommodate about 6,000 swimmers at a time. About 100,000 people use the beach over the swimming season.
The lake is a man-made reservoir created when a dam was built on Spencer Creek. The dam, completed in 1971, was constructed to prevent major flooding in low-lying Dundas.
The reservoir covers about 60 hectares and contains enough water to fill more than 900 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
