Second-Generation BRIGHT Team

Second-Generation BRIGHT Team – Meet Siera Stampone

At age 26, Siera Stampone has already spent almost half her life involved in the BRIGHT Run.

She has been a member of BRIGHT team In It Together since 2009. The team came together after her mom, Donna Stampone, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 at age 39. In 2016, Donna was the BRIGHT Run survivor spokesperson.

“After experiencing all the support and unity of our first BRIGHT Run, I became involved as a volunteer,” said Siera.

Now Siera, who graduated from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law in 2021, has not only established her own law practice, Stampone Law, but has started her own BRIGHT Run team, Team Mazza and Stampone.

“I decided to create my own BRIGHT team as I started my own law practice this year in the Hamilton community and figured that I would be able to fundraise through my business and reach a wider audience,” she said. “I am excited to partner with the Mazza Team and with Royal Lepage State Realty to fundraise together for this important cause.”

Siera’s Stoney Creek practice specializes in real estate, wills and estates and family law. She is happy to be starting her career in her hometown and to get involved in the community in any way she can.

“This disease (breast cancer), hits so close to home for my family and, as a result, the BRIGHT Run is a very important cause,” she said. “Not only is it important to raise money for breast cancer research in the community, but it is also important to raise awareness for all women, especially young women who may not be aware that this can affect them.”

Shortly after Donna’s treatment, her own mother, Wilma Prosia, was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Wilma’s sister, Rita Calcagni, died of breast cancer in 2021. Her son, Mark Calcagni, is an integral member of team In It Together.

“My grandmother’s cancer journey was long-lasting and unfortunately it ended in 2016,” Siera said. “The last 14 years have been full of strength, perseverance, grief, and community.”

“BRIGHT Run has allowed me to connect with other individuals who have experience the same grief as me, while also directly supporting those who are fighting,” Siera said.
