Sept. 12, 2020:
It’s feeling a bit stressy backstage at the virtual BRIGHT Run. We’re on the verge of a bunch of firsts. We have no sea of faces smiling up at us. No breeze blowing. No sun shining on us, although there’s lots of sunshine outside.
And then it’s time. Our MC, K-Lite’s Sunni Genesco, does what only she can do – she gets us started with her own special confidence and energy and we’re feeling more comfortable. Yup, this will work. And it will be great!
And it was! The virtual BRIGHT Run took off from a studio at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Hamilton, shepherded by the terrific folks at Kitestring and Soundbox Productions.
But YOU did the rest! You walked and cycled, pushed strollers and pulled wagons, safely and joyfully in neighbourhoods, parks and backyards. You sent us pictures and videos and messages – you had fun!
We all made the best of a tough year and our best was excellent. At a time when most charities were hoping to pull in 25 to 50 per cent of their goals, the BRIGHT Run exceeded its goal of $300,000 by more than $30,000.
Amazing! Now on to BRIGHT 2021!
