BRIGHT Run is happy to participate in a call for research applications launched by the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation (JHCCF).
We hope to be funding several research projects up to $220,000 in total.
“With COVID-19 hopefully behind us and the new EPIC technology platform in place at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, breast cancer research is back in focus and the steps are in place to continue our great work,” said BRIGHT chair Nancy McMillan.
“The first step is to reach out to the JCC research community through this spring call for grant proposals,” she said. “BRIGHT Run is very excited to be participating this year and we’re looking forward to announcing funded projects in the early summer.”
The grants to be provided by The BRIGHT Run Fund in support of breast cancer research fall into two categories.
Two grants for research development are available. The purpose of these grants is to gather data that will help create more extensive applications to funding agencies that undergo peer review. The funded projects should be completed within a 24-month timeframe.
A thematic research grant is available for a more significant project. This project will focus on addressing crucial research questions in one of three areas: clinical trial projects, translational projects, or quality of care and knowledge translation projects. The requirement is to complete the project within a 36-month period.
Translational projects involve activities or research efforts that aim to turn scientific findings, new ideas, or knowledge from labs or academic settings into practical uses for the benefit of society. The point is to connect the dots between fundamental scientific research and actually applying it in patient/clinical setting.
Efforts to enhance the quality of healthcare and knowledge translation projects involve plans to improve how healthcare services are provided. This is done by incorporating information based on evidence into actual clinical practices.
The call for applications is open to principal investigators involved in the cancer program at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre and the intent is to fund early-career investigators.
Applications must be submitted by April 30. Submissions will be scrutinized by a panel of experts. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions in early July.
