BRIGHT Run Volunteer Georgia Markettos

“Everyone is there to support breast cancer awareness and, even as a teen volunteer, you feel included, appreciated, and part of something bigger than yourself.”

Why/how did you originally get involved with the BRIGHT Run?

I originally got involved because I really care about the cause and wanted to support the fight against breast cancer. As a teen, I was looking for a way to give back and be part of something meaningful, and the BRIGHT Run felt like a great way to help make a difference in my community.

How would you describe your BRIGHT Run experience(s) to someone who is considering volunteering with us?

I would describe it as really fun, meaningful, and welcoming. In 2025, I helped guide the Tiger-Cat mascot during the event, which is such a unique experience because you get to interact with participants and bring energy to the event. It’s a positive environment where you feel like you’re helping something important while also enjoying yourself.

It is overall a very rewarding experience that I would recommend to everyone. You’re given the opportunity to meet so many new people and hear the stories of others.

My most memorable moment was guiding the mascot and seeing how excited and happy it made the participants, especially the kids and families. It was amazing to see everyone come together for such an important cause and know I was helping create the experience.

What makes the BRIGHT Run volunteer experience special?

The strong sense of community and purpose. Everyone is there to support breast cancer awareness, and, even as a teen volunteer, you feel included, appreciated, and part of something bigger than yourself.
