…Informed Audit and Feedback Program for Breast Cancer Specialists within a Learning Health System
Breast cancer care involves many complex decisions, including surgery, drug treatment, radiation, and genetic testing. Although clear guidelines exist, patients do not always receive the same care, and these differences can affect outcomes. Understanding and reducing these variations is an important step toward improving care.
At the Juravinski Cancer Centre, we have built a Learning Health System that collects real-time information on how breast cancer patients are treated and how they do over time. This project will use that information to develop a system that provides doctors with regular feedback on their clinical practice, showing how their care compares to guidelines and to their peers.
We will work closely with breast cancer specialists to design the system so that it is useful, relevant, and fits into their daily practice. We will then study how doctors use this feedback, what makes it helpful, and why it may or may not lead to changes in care.
The findings will help guide the design of similar systems in other areas of cancer care and at other centres and may identify gaps in care that need further research.
