As we move into a BRIGHT and sunny July, many of the COVID-19 related restrictions are loosening as we edge closer to some sort of new normal. Please remember, though, that the pandemic continues and we must all continue to practise social distancing and responsible behaviour in public and at home to protect ourselves and each other.
In the context of the ongoing pandemic – that means a lot of Zoom meetings! – your BRIGHT Run executive committee continues working hard to create a top-notch virtual experience on Sept. 12 to celebrate another year of successful fundraising to support local breast cancer research.
And a bunch of BRIGHT Run teams and supporters are coming up with creative and fun ways to raise money and spirits.
Jewelry designer Monica Graves of glamjulz, for example, has two terrific projects rolling out in July. First, make sure to check out glamjulz Facebook feed on July 7 at 1 p.m., when Monica will chat live with BRIGHT event chair Nancy McMillan about all things BRIGHT and breast cancer.
Then on the evening of July 22, Monica will host a workshop on Zoom to help each of us discover our inner jewelry designer. Make sure to order your pink ribbon bracelet kit well in advance so you can participate in this lively event. Click here to order.
Amber and Crystal Ripa, of BRIGHT team Pink Ribbon Ride, postponed their annual fundraising equestrian clinic because of COVID-19. A highlight of that event has always been the silent auction, so the sisters are taking it to the Pink Ribbon Ride Facebook page from July 6 to July 12. There’s a really good chance something will catch your fancy, so make sure to take a look.
And pink ribbon apparel is still available through B&C Custom Apparel, with 40 per cent of sales going to BRIGHT Run 2020. Get your orders in now!
Virtual BRIGHT Update
With the help of two local companies – Kitestring and Soundbox Productions – we’re working on a BRIGHT, colourful and peppy Facebook Live opening ceremony on Sept. 12, which will be followed by a break for teams and individual participants to celebrate BRIGHT in their own special way. We want to see pictures and video of your own celebration so we can share them with the whole BRIGHT family. Then we’ll come back together, safely apart, to wrap up the festivities on Facebook Live.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more details of the celebration, along with a range of ways you can get involved. We’d love to hear your ideas, so please contact us at info@brightrun.ca
We’re also planning a physically distanced drive-through T-shirt pick up event in late August. Come for your T-shirt and a goody bag, enjoy some entertainment and get a free ticket to win an amazing door prize…or parking lot prize? Whatever we call it, you won’t want to miss your chance to win!
And introducing our BRIGHT 2020 Survivor Spokesperson…
Steve Ewoniak takes on the important role of our survivor spokesperson, the first man to have done so in the history of the BRIGHT Run.
A married father of two, Steve was diagnosed in February 2018. His experience impressed upon him the importance of self-examination for early diagnosis.
Read more about Steve in this eNewsletter and learn about breast cancer in men in this month’s column by Mark Levine, our own doc with the pink tights.
