BRIGHT’s Team Victorious took to the ice on New Year’s Eve eve, hosting a family skate to raise funds for local breast cancer research.
The two-hour event on Dec. 30 took place at the Wentworth Sports Complex and attracted about 100 skaters of all ages and skill levels, well equipped with blades and head protection!
One hour of ice time was donated by the Hamilton Women’s Hockey League (HWHL) and the second hour was donated by Wentworth Sports Complex. Between the $5 admission fee for each skater, sales of baked goods and hot chocolate, and donations, the event raised more than $700 for BRIGHT 2024!
“We decided to start fundraising early because we knew we wanted to do a family skate,” said team captain Victoria O’Connor, our 2023 survivor spokesperson. “Christmas time seemed like the best opportunity to get lots of kids out, as most extracurriculars are put on hold over the holidays.”
Skate on, Victorious!
